Bilfinger GVA associate swims his way to top ten finish in European Masters Championships
BILFINGER GVA Associate Andrew Moore has succeeded on the international stage in two swimming events at the European Masters Championships.
The 50-year-old, part of the Manchester Retail, Hotels and Leisure team, finished in the top 10 in Europe for 100m freestyle when he took on the European Masters Championships.
Andrew, who has worked at Bilfinger GVA Manchester for five years, was also placed 11th in the 50m freestyle.
Now, he will be aiming to take on global competitors when he swims in the Budapest World Masters event in 2017.
He said: “I used to swim a lot when I was younger then I retired from competitive swimming in my 20s.
“I won the British Masters championships a few years back and managed to break a British Record and I’ve been training hard for this one and around four times a week fitting in schedules around work and the family – I’m fitter than I have been for many years.
“The Europeans was held at an amazing venue at the London Aquatics Centre within the 2012 Olympic Sports Village – around 10,000 people attended of all different age groups from 25 up and the atmosphere was incredible.
“I came 10th place in the European championships for 100m freestyle and missed out on third place by just half a second in a very close race. I was also the 2nd GB swimmer home so I was pretty happy.
“Next stop Budapest for the World Championships!”
