St. Modwen brings new card shop and event space to Crosby
St. Modwen, the expert developer and regeneration specialist, has signed two new deals to bring Bailey’s Cards & Gifts and The Crosby Events Centre (CEC) to Crosby.
Bailey’s, the popular and award-winning card and gift retailer, is opening a Hallmark Gold Crown Independent store in the village.
Bailey’s will be ran by local businesswoman Penny Bailey and will be her second store in the area. Following the success of the first Ainsdale store and recent award for ‘Best New Branch North’ at the National UK Independent Greeting Card awards, the Crosby branch will open in the new year.
Bailey’s has signed a 10-year lease to occupy a 1,500 sq ft ground floor unit at 10 Moor Lane, located between newly opened high-street fashion retailer Peacocks and Card Factory.
In addition to greeting cards, Bailey’s has expanded its gift range to include fashion accessories and household favourite chocolatier franchise Thorntons.
Penny Bailey, Manager and Owner at Bailey’s Crosby, said: “We’re really pleased to complete this deal with St. Modwen and to open our second store in the area. After the huge success of our shop in Ainsdale it was a natural next step to open a branch in Crosby.
“Crosby is only a short drive away from our other store and a really thriving area for our business to relocate to, especially after the investment St. Modwen has made to provide retailers with modern units in the village.
“Our offering is much more than just greeting cards, we believe our unique gifting and Thorntons franchise will be a great addition to Crosby and we’re confident we will be very happy here.”
Bailey’s and Thorntons are joined by The Crosby Events Centre (CEC), which is taking 3,400 sq ft on a 10-year lease in Glenn Buildings North in the first floor space above the Blues Bar and will hold up to 500 people.
The Crosby Events Centre (CEC), are the company behind Tipsy Monkey a popular local restaurant in Crosby and William Fox Syrups based in Bootle. They will be using the space as a function suite available for personal occasions such as weddings, birthdays, christenings and funerals as well as professional occasions such as conferences and workshops, with the Tipsy Monkey and other local traders providing catering.
Laura Tudor-Williams a co-founder of the centre, is a previous British National, Closed and International finalist and will be running a Latin and Ballroom specialist dance school for all ages, with the view to host dancing events and competitions that should attract over 100 people to the area.
George Tudor-Williams, Co-Founder of The Crosby Events Centre, said: “We’re really pleased and excited to be opening in Crosby. The Crosby Events Centre is exactly what the village has been missing and we’re confident we will make a big impact on the area and local community.
“In terms of the offering the stunning space provides, it can be used for almost any occasion from birthday parties to conferences. We’re also going to be hosting Crosby’s very own indoor Maker’s Market along with a Latin and Ballroom dance school.
“Myself and my wife Laura are locals and Laura has always lived in Crosby. We’re happy we can give back to the village we love, working with local traders to provide this multi-use facility and are looking forward to what the future holds.”
The Crosby Events Centre and Bailey’s join a raft of new occupiers, including high street fashion chain Peacocks, Village Vets and Costa Coffee, which have come to Crosby following St. Modwen’s investment in the village.
Andrew Day, Asset Manager at St. Modwen, said: “These new deals are great for Crosby and the local community. We feel the addition of The Crosby Events Centre and Bailey’s will add a new offering for the local community.
“We’re pleased with the range of new occupiers that have committed to Crosby and they are testament to the demand for high quality accommodation in the village. Their wide offering and commitment to the area supports what we’re trying to achieve, and are increasing the retail, bar and restaurant choice for local people.”
